Possibly. I favor the "worn openly" scenario, not the 'concealed deadly."
As far as I'm concerned any gun is a weapon of mass destruction and they should be banned. No civilized person should ever have cause to need a gun.

I don't think I need to particularly defend myself against my fellow citizens, but I ain't gonna live in a country where their troops and police have guns and I don't. An armed society is a polite society? Maybe, but it is damned sure a freer one.

[1 point] 190 days ago by deleted user ReplyI say 'no' because I personally have no need for a gun--live in a relatively safe urban environment, don't hunt, don't live in the pioneer days....And then there's the little matter of me not knowing how to use one. I'd be as likely to shoot my own foot as what I was aiming for. But if I were properly trained to handle such a weapon and had a real use for it, I believe I would carry one if it was legal to do so.

[1 point] 190 days ago by deleted user ReplyI never said I hated guns, just that I choose not to carry one. The question asked if I'd carry a gun, not if I was for or against them. Guns do make me nervous, I'm not going to lie about that. But I also feel it's a person's right to protect themselves if they need to. Personally, I have no use for one and don't feel comfortable enough in my own abilities to use it (nor do I feel the drive to go out and learn). So no, I would not carry one. But that doesn't mean I'm going to insist everyone else's get taken away.

Being who I am, I'm not sure I could shoot anything living, but I think it'd be fun to learn to shoot at targets...Though, really, did you have to use the soccer mom analogy? :-P
Here's one. Mostly handguns, 9mm's. My friend who is a collector tells me I should be a professional assassin.
I hate the damn things.
I hope you never need one--someone will in your little safe community someday and I hope they have one, if you only need it once in a hundred years that is wonderful, learn how to use one if you have to.
Thank you. I'll keep that in mind.
I just wanted to clarify that I'm not trying to be rude with the above statement, BEC44. I do appreciate your comment and will keep that in mind. I'm looking into taking a self-defense class, because it's really been bothering me that I don't know how to defend myself if I ever needed to--and you're right, you can never guarantee you won't need to one day, no matter how safe a community you live in. Ownership of a gun might be awhile, though. I'm just being honest about that.
And in my defense, I did say I lived in a relatively safe community. Meaning that the potential for danger is still there, and I realize this. No place is a utopia. I just had to get that out in case my "safe city" comment made me sound like a 5-year-old. Cause I can see how it would. :-P
Thank you for the reply, I never considered that a rude answer, compared to a lot of them I get, that is one of the nicer ones, thanks and do keep it in mind.. BEC44 In parting, remember Va Tec was a safe place, except once.
"A State's failure to protect an individual against private violence generally does not constitute a violation of the Due Process Clause, because the Clause imposes no duty on the State to provide members of the general public with adequate protective services. The Clause is phrased as a limitation on the State's power to act, not as a guarantee of certain minimal levels of safety and security . . ." (Supreme Court decision DESHANEY v. WINNEBAGO CTY. SOC. SERVS. DEPT.)
If the state is not obligated to "guarantee of certain minimal levels of safety and security" as Supreme Court has declared, then who is responsible for your protection? I'll give you a hint - look in the mirror.
I will not presume to speak for other nations whose laws and traditions as well as social and economic conditions dictate their views on the subject. But statistics here in the United States are incontrovertible - States that adopt Conceal Carry laws experience a drop in violent crime and a shift to non-confrontational crime.
Right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental freedom expressed in our constitution. Rights, do not come without responsibilities however. Any citizen exercising this right is responsible for: 1. Knowing and understanding the relevant laws. 2. Attaining a basic competency with the firearm. 3. Make reasonable effort to secure the firearms in their posesion. Those that fail in these responsibilities undermine the right for the rest of us.

I think they would, so in that case it would make it a safer place. What i wonder is, what happens in situations when street gangs or just groups start fighting(as they have always done and will do until the end of time) and you know that if its legal to have a gun then they will carry also. So that situation turns from what would of been a fist and foot fight or maybe the use of bats and knives to a gun shoot out, which would be almost guaranteed to put innocent bystanders life's in jeopardy.
The only solution would be to ban all guns from the public and immediate police. The use of guns in the police force is needed as a deterrent to gun using criminals i agree, but if guns where to be banned then the police force would have to be never allowed to use guns as a means of controlling the public. Be it protest or just general mass unrest situations. There are thousands of non lethal weaponry now.
Like someone else said, i dont hunt, nor need to, who does these days. And i dont live in the past when guns where an essential key to surving and keeping whats yours, yours. So i would carry one if it was legal but i dont agree that that is the answer.

[1 point] 190 days ago by deleted user ReplyI carried a gun (for work) for years. I don't own one now and don't miss it a bit.
You may only have one chance to miss it!!
I thought about it and i think it was going to be the same way if i had one.
Someone pulls a gun on me what would you ppl do, take out your gun and shoot him? We would probably piss on our pants give him what he wants OR run away if possible.
