I don't think Iran is a bigger threat than Russia was once perceived to be, yet we didn't bomb the shit out of Russia just because Israel told us to, so I don't think we should bomb the shit out of Iran either. Why don't we just have a cold war with them for the next thirty years and then we can all kiss and make up just like we did with Russia?
Certainly not a great threat, but I think it would be silly to ignore the combination of the country that invented suicide bombers (in its modern form - I'm not counting WW2 japan), and nuclear weapons.
Stick a few nukes on ocean going pleasure boats, crewed by some guys desperate to get their hands on the 72 virgins, sail into major US ports, and oh dear, big problem.
This more than any other reason, is why we try so hard to keep Nukes out of the hands of the the criminally insane!

The only threat is that we may not get their oil if we don't make up some reason to attack them.
They don't even have that much...they are past production peak, have been for years.
