If there was no God, there wouldn't be any atheists. Ask a Question

Nope - just philosophical geniuses who aren't filled with self-importance.

This is a dumb question, If there were no God of course there would be no atheists. Uh, ...duh. What do you think "atheist" means???

Of course we know there is a God, but that isn't what the question asks, is it? :-)

Actually, it is not a question at all. It is a statement made by one of the more brilliant men of the 20th century....G K Chesterton.

I always thought Chesterton was commenting on the existence of god, that the existence of atheists proved the existence of god.

My favorite Chesterton:

"My country, right or wrong," is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying, "My mother, drunk or sober."

Atheism is the lack of belief in a God. If a God (or Gods) exist or not is irrelevant to whether or not you believe they do. So there will always be atheists.

The existence of the beliefs of atheism and theism are independent of the existence of god. If man had never obtained belief in god than it would make sense that there would be no atheists, simply because the question would not be there.
