No such thing as absolute freedom. So, unlike pregnancy, all freedom is relative.
I agree in a society freedom of the individual needs to be restricted to protect others.
Sorry, i am often left speechless by NewSpeak.
Freedom is relative. We have laws in place that restrict freedom. Most are good laws, but they do restrict the freedom one has to do whatever they want.
The individual's freedom is severely restricted, and have little to do with promoting the common good. There is almost no restriction on corporate acts. That has been the very successful goal of the Republican administrations since Nixon. That has proven to be very very bad. Even my ultra-conservative ex CFO of a major international company says that the mortgage meltdown is largely due to lack of restrictions on how business was done.
Once upon a time there was a country that offered freedom. It was shot over the freedom issue in the 1800's and died in 1914. There are no serious countries on the planet offering freedom. You cannot go where you choose, you cannot earn money without it being taxed and in many if you upset someone's 'feelings' they can put you in jail. Very few people on this planet are free... I do like how John Kerry pays virtually no income taxes on his billions in income..
Billions???
