Does the AIDS pandemic outpace the progess being made to combat it?

I don't really know the answer. It doesn't seem like as many people are dying from it, at least not in the country I live in. In the 1980's and all through the 1990's it seems like somebody famous died from AIDS almost every week, but during the last few years I don't recall seeing anyone famous dying from it. I take this to mean they are starting to get it under control.
lol, for famous people, anyway.
According to UNAIDS and the WHO, the answer is no (for now). New cases are decreasing in some areas, like sub-saharan, but are still increasing worldwide. Changes in sexual behaviour (such as the wearing of condoms) may be what is causing the decrease in the sub-saharan areas.
