Do you personally know any adult who is not aware that Africa is a continent, not a country? Ask a Question

Accusation from an UNNAMED source!

True. This "Quote" was a complete lie.

I even know someone who thinks that there are 57 states in the United States.

That's so dog gone lame. Everyone knows there's 52.

Probably. It's not like most Americans understand Geography past their own borders. While I'm not guilty of the "Africa is a country" mistake, I probably would be hardpressed to find many countries on a map, though I do tend to look them up when I don't know.

I would hope, however, that people who choose to be our political leaders on a national level would show more of an interest.

Probably Palin would have corrected much of her ignorance - she is pretty smart, and she seems driven. I don't think they should have offered her the position at this point in her career, though.

That occurred to me, too. Another possible explanation is that she had a brain fart. I have those all the time; you know, that moment when you know the answer but your brain refuses to download the information to your mouth. Drives me nuts.

The above story is one of those, he said, she said ones that we may never know the truth on, and had probably been blown out of proportion. What really bugs me about Sarah is the same kind of incuriousness that we saw in Bush. Not stupidity, just no desire to learn the shades of gray inbetween the black and white.

Good comment Waugs.

ar ar ar!

HAAAAAA!!!

Most people I know learned the names of the continents in grade school. They learned or should have learned the countries in each continent in grade school. That many countries have changed names since they were in grade school is something they would know if they just read newspapers and purchased a world almanac every few years. That there are people so clueless to not know Africa is a continent full of many different countries almost seems unfathomable. How can such people even survive in today's society being so ignorant of the world they live in?

It's not like they understand geography WITHIN their own borders, either.

On the general subject:

The United States is the only country with a significant international political and economic influence where it is possible to go from kindergarten through university without a single basic course in geography. Some of our most prestigious universities do not even have geography departments-an unthinkable circumstance in other parts of the world. (When I told a German professor that my alma mater, Yale, did not teach geography, he commented, "But I thought Yale was a university.") "

You just can't help it can you Bob? You won the election and still you just want to Bash Bash Bash. Sad Sad Sad.

I'll be glad to see you make the same criticism to Wingnutt, Wiseone, and the others who have continued to post inflammatory questions against Obama.

Yes!!!! I will be waiting for that also.

As soon as Obama is no longer relevant than I would expect the questions about him to stop.

Nice rationalization.

*KISS*

As I've said before, I cannot take you seriously. You offer nothing. You seem to know less.

I find it comical how your ideology blinds you. It has blinded the GOP, and in fact trapped it, into becoming a very small-minded, narrow, and foolish party.

I don't give Bush a break because he ruined our country. Keeping my @ss alive since 9/11? 9/11 never should have happened. Arrogance, a trademark of Bush in his first 6 years in office, enabled 9/11 to happen. He was full of it in 2001.

But, as I have said before. I don't hate the man; I simply hate what he did to America.

You are a perfect example of the Republican product: You never offer substance, and you fight important things at every turn. For sure, we need to know if a potential VP is not a smart person, or is ignorant. You seem to not care, and look what that got you with Bush.

But, regarding this Palin issue about Africa, it is not something us liberals made up! Hell man, this is straight out of the Wingnut Camp Central!

But here's a bigger point: If it IS made up and not true, then NOW YOU TOO CAN FEEL LIKE A LIBERAL, because we're used to fools like you making shit up to get revenge, or advantage!

Rage on punk.

A vice presidential candidate that doesn't know Africa is a continent isn't important news? How can such people claim to have a handle on foreign affairs when they think the 53 countries that compromise the African Union are just counties in the "country" of Africa. Doesn't such a low level of intelligence astound you? Sure we are safe from her for the present, but if it is really true she has aspirations to campaign for office in 2012 don't you think she should sign up for a class in geography at the Wasilla Community College before she tries again?

Chipmonk, why do you persist in repeating a lie that YOU know is a lie. Are you so afraid that this extremely intelligent, very likeable lady will kick the Democrats out in 2012 that you will recycle all the old lies from this election?

It may be a lie, but let's not get out of hand with the extremely intelligent and winning in 2012 stuff. That's almost as far fetched as the attacks.

The comments about Africa came from an "Anonymous" source. They probably aren't accurate or true. But some people seem to take them as the truth. It's an issue with Image on Palin's part of course, but the point is that you can't just take derogatory comments from an anonymous source as facts. These cowards should come out and put their name behind their words, then maybe they will carry some weight.

I'd like to agree with you on that one. The reality of it is that whoever squawked is either a liar who was thought to be in the know, or someone who really did know but was afraid they would never work in Washington again if it came out they told.

I haven't noticed that many Obama questions that bash him as a person lately. The Majority of Palin questions bash her as a person, even though she is no longer even a relevant political figure.

She won't run in 2012, her image is too damaged.

Yes. I am waiting also, CDog. Been watching for the past week.

You can wait all you want. You almost never have anything meaningful to say so what you want means very litle to me.

Sheep, Waugs, even Chipmonk I will respond to because they request, you on the other hand don't rate that highly.

Pity

It is?

No-one I know is that stupid.

Australia is a Continent, an Island and a Country.

Palin might have been away from school that day or maybe she was never taught about Africa.

I don't think it is a big deal unless she was to be VP of the USA.

But that didn't and won't happen.
