The school had some pretty strict rules, but they were responsible for 4,000 kids. Everything was extremely organized, because it just had to be.
You wouldn't believe how many kids still chose to risk it, though.
The problem goes deeper than just disrespect and disruption, too. For example, what if a child is texting someone during class time, and something bad happens to the child as a result? (Maybe they are involved with drugs, or unknowingly a sexual predator). If phone records show that the calls/texts were done on class time, a teacher or the school (or both) could be held liable... not to mention the obvious guilt that would be felt...
The school had no problem with kids leaving the phone OFF (not on vibrate) preferibly in their locker, but keeping it in a bookbag or purse out of sight was acceptable, too. Once the last bell of the day rang, they were free to take them out and use them all they wanted.
The school would also never deny a child's request to contact a parent or guardian. All they would have to do is ask. So there is absolutely no need for the use of the phone during the school day.
Thanks for the vote-up :) I'm curious too, since I consider myself to have bad luck and I was wondering if everyone felt that way. Things happen to me that are just so weird that I can't classify them as anything other than bad luck. Once I went on a series of interviews, didn't call back, and two weeks later every voicemail that someone had left me in the past two weeks just randomly popped up in my phone, including a "you got the job" message- which was given to the next candidate in line by the time I called back. The phone had never done that before, and never did it again. And then there was the time that between my husband and me our (PARKED) cars were hit 3 times within 3 months...
But in the good luck department, I'm alive, healthy, have a great husband, and two beautiful, healthy daughters, so I guess my good luck is where it counts the most :)

I knew someone would say that. :) So for you, has the law of probability dealt you more good reults or more bad results? ;)
